Alprazolam
Depressant · popular
A short-acting, high-potency benzodiazepine with a fast, anxiety-melting onset and a disproportionate reputation among counterfeit presses. Blackouts and rebound anxiety are common; the combination with opioids or alcohol is lethal.

Before you dose
Dose
Published population range
Basis: Depends on tolerance and on what the tablet actually contains.
Counterfeit pressed bars frequently contain other benzodiazepines or nitazenes, so a '1 mg bar' may be 3 mg or something else entirely.

Timeline (inhaled)
Bars show relative time in each phase, scaled to the total duration. Each phase keeps its colour in the list above.
Expected effects
- Rapid anxiety relief
- Relaxation
- Reduced inhibitions
- Muscle relaxation
- Sedation
Possible side effects
- Memory loss and blackouts
- Dependence and severe withdrawal (seizures)
- Rebound anxiety between doses
- Sedation and falls
- Respiratory depression when mixed with opioids or alcohol
- Paradoxical agitation in some people
- Counterfeit tablets of unknown strength
Known toxicity
- low toxicity
- potentially lethal when mixed with depressants like alcohol, opioids, or barbiturates
Harm reduction
- Depressants are the class where mixing kills most often: alcohol, benzodiazepines, GHB/GBL and opioids all suppress breathing when combined.
- Never use alone. If you use alone, set up a check-in call with someone who will call emergency services if you do not answer.
- Measure liquid doses with a syringe. Bottle caps, teaspoons and 'glugs' are how people take ten times the intended dose.
- Sedation can be delayed. Do not re-dose before you can feel the previous dose fully.
- Do not stop daily benzodiazepine or alcohol use abruptly - withdrawal can cause seizures and is potentially fatal. Taper with medical help.
- Signs that someone needs emergency help: breathing slower than one breath every 4-5 seconds, blue lips, snoring that will not stop, unrousable, vomiting while unconscious.
Identify what you have
Reagent tests show what a substance probably is, not how pure it is or what else is in the mix. Fentanyl and nitazene test strips are the only reliable check for those, and quantitative lab testing is better than both.
